Cosmos Team Information
Capital FC Cosmos, u18 Boys (2016-2017) 1999s and 2000s birth year boys.
Information and Outlook:
Capital FC Cosmos, a Washington, DC based rising u18 boys travel team is coming off one of its best seasons. Entering the 2016-2017 season the Cosmos are pre-season Got Soccer ranked #231 in the country. The tryout and summer season have allowed the team to bring in new high level talent to add to the roster. However, the Cosmos continue to look to add depth and dimension due to some some player movements due to the age group changes--the Cosmos will not be carrying birth year 1998 players in the 2016-2017 season. The Cosmos will again play a premier schedule including league play in EDP, Region 1 Champions League, USYSA State Cup and National Series, premier tournaments including the EDP Cup, EDP Open Cup, Disney Showcase Qualifier, Annandale Premier Cup, Bethesda Thanksgiving Tournament, 2017 friendlies against collegiate teams.
Our philosophy of player development from u17 - u19 i is to prepare players for the next level- be it collegiate, or if a player wants to pursue interests internationally. To do so, Cosmos train minimum 3 times per week (see more below regarding fall play) prepare in high level league play (Eastern Development Program or EDP, www.edpsoccer.org), get exposure to high level showcase tournaments and events, and are proactive in engaging their next level contacts.
Many Cosmos players (approximately 75% of the 2016-2017 roster) participate in the summer Super Y League program (www.sylsoccer.com), gainvaluable experience, and through their play look to return to the Super Y League's North American Finals (NAF) event at the fabled IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. Many Cosmos players were nominted to the Super Y Regional ODP camp for their performance during the season 2016 summer season. Cosmos roster contains 8 ODP players (including 2 regional and 1 national team player).
Cosmos will look to finailze the roster before the end of August. Many players on the Cosmos roster play high school soccer in the fall. Some players choose not to play high school soccer. Those choosing not to play high school soccer are offered additional training opportunties with the local high school team or men's team, depending on player availability.
Our regular training schedule includes practices 3 times per week (normally Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday). During the fall season, we have a scaled down practice schedule and schedule of tournaments, lower volume of EDP games by way of friendlies, and tournaments in order to prepare and compete in the National Series (aka State Cup) and to prevent overuse injuries in players. During the fall high school season, the team will get together a minimum of 1 day per week while high school soccer is in season.
In the spring 2017 we will continue competition friendlies against some collegiate teams, as well as a tour of friendlies before collegiate scouts.
